About Us

Founded in 1972 as the Johnson City Volunteer Ambulance Corps, North Blanco County EMS has steadily grown in size, capabilities, and call volume.

We provide pre-hospital emergency medical services under contract to North Blanco County Emergency Services District.

North Blanco County Emergency Services District  provides tax-supported revenue to us.

We service an area of 600 square miles of northern Blanco County, with a population of approximately 4,000 people.  Our response district encompasses the Johnson City Independent School District and includes the communities of Johnson City, Round Mountain, Hye, and Sandy.  Our territory includes three major highways, LBJ National Park, Pedernales Falls State Park, and one of the top hunting and scenic areas in the State.

We are located in Johnson City, the birthplace and hometown of President Lyndon Baines Johnson, in the heart of the Central Texas Hill Country - approximately 50 miles west of Austin, our State Capitol.  Our central station houses our three ambulances, administrative offices and staff, our newly renovated crew quarters and training center. Our station is staffed 24/7 by our dedicated personnel, with full-time coverage at the paramedic level.

Status

We are an IRS 501(c)(3) tax exempt, non-profit organization.  We have a five-member Board of Directors elected from within the membership.  The EMS Director reports to this Board, and is in charge of Operations.

We are a combination department with both career and volunteer staff. Combined, we have about 35 members. We have a very active group of non-certified volunteers who assist with the administrative needs of this organization.

Capabilities

Our fleet is comprised of three state-of-the-art, well-equipped ambulances. Each ambulance is licensed through the Texas Department of State Health Services as Basic Life Support with Mobile Intensive Care Unit Capabilities. Each of these ambulances are stocked with identical format, with top-of-the-line medical equipment in each ambulance. In addition to our fleet of ambulances, we also have a pick-up truck that is utilized as a command vehicle.

As a result of a school bus accident drill in 1997, we have a Mass Casualty Incident / Medical Incident Command Trailer. The trailer is stocked with supplies and equipment to treat 25 patients. We have mutual-aid agreements with many surrounding agencies, and have a fantastic working relationship with the Johnson City & Round Mountain Volunteer Fire Departments for rescue, extrication and traffic control at emergency scenes.
