About Us |
Founded in 1972 as the Johnson City Volunteer Ambulance Corps, NBCEMS has steadily grown in size, capabilities, and call volume. |
We provide pre-hospital emergency medical services under contract to North Blanco County Emergency Services District. North Blanco County Emergency Services District provides tax-supported revenue to us. We service an area of 600 square miles of northern Blanco County, with a population of 3200 people. Our response district encompasses the Johnson City Independent School District and the communities of Johnson City, Round Mountain, Hye, and Sandy. Our territory includes three major highways, LBJ National Park, Pedernales Falls State Park, and one of the top hunting and scenic areas in the State. We are located in Johnson City, the birthplace and hometown of President Lyndon Baines Johnson, in the heart of the Central Texas Hill Country - approximately 50 miles west of Austin, our State Capitol. Our single location houses our three ambulances, administrative offices, day/night staff crew quarters, and training center. |

Capabilities |
Our fleet is comprised of three state-of-the-art, well-equipped ambulances. Each ambulance is licensed as Basic Life Support with Mobile Intensive Care Unit Capabilities. As a result of a school bus accident drill in 1997, we have a Mass Casualty Incident / Medical Incident Command Trailer. The trailer is stocked with supplies and equipment to treat 30 patients. We have mutual-aid agreements with many surrounding agencies, and work closely with the Johnson City & Round Mountain Volunteer Fire Departments for rescue, extrication and traffic control at emergency scenes. Due to average transport times of 35 to 45 minutes to a Trauma Center, we frequently use either the StarFlight helicopter from Austin, or San Antonio AirLife to medevac our most critical trauma and medical patients. |

Status |
We are an IRS 501-c-3 tax exempt, non-profit organization. We have a five-member Board of Directors elected from within the membership. The EMS Director reports to this Board, and is in charge of Operations. We have about 35 members, most of whom are volunteers. We have some paid medical staff to supplement our volunteers when needed. We have a very active group on non-medical volunteers who assist with the administrative needs of this organization. |
Certifications |
We are registered with the Texas Department of State Health Services (formerly TDH), which provides regulatory oversight. Our Medical Director, Dr. Larry Miller, is under contract to provide the medical oversight and protocols for our service. |
