Medical Director

Dr. Miller co-founded the Bulverde-Spring Branch Emergency Medical Service (EMS) in 1976 and continues to be the medical director for that organization.  He was medical director for the Shock Trauma Advanced Team (STAT) that provided medical support and treated the injured during the Branch Davidian siege in Waco, Texas in 1993. 

In addition to serving as medical director for North Blanco EMS in Johnson City, he is also Medical Director for American Medical Response (AMR) in San Antonio, Mylam County, Brooks County, and Austin, as well as Blanco Volunteer EMS System, First Medical Response of Austin, and the City of Devine EMS System.  He is an active member of the San Antonio EMS coordinating committee for the Bexar County Medical Society. He is an active member of the EMS Diversion Task Force of the Greater San Antonio Hospital Counsel.

Dr. Larry Miller practiced emergency medicine for 30 years in one of Texas' largest hospital systems.  Since training at Chicago’s Cook County Hospital, where he earned the "Intern of the Year" Award in 1966, he has treated more than 125,000 emergency patients.  Doctor Miller was Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the five Baptist Health System Hospitals in San Antonio for 10 years.  He is past Chairman of the Physicians Quality Management Board (PQMB) of those hospitals. An accomplished author, he has written a book, Never Get Sick On the First of July, about his experiences in emergency medicine.

Dr. Miller has successfully developed and commercialized several medical products in his role as founder or senior executive of five medical device and pharmaceutical companies, among them LifeQuest Medical Inc. (NASDAQ LQMD), where as cofounder and chairman he acquired worldwide rights to the Osteoport and to the First Med System developed by scientists at the University of Texas.  The Osteoport was selected by Popular Science as one of the 100 greatest achievements in science and technology for 1991. Dr. Miller has been awarded 30 patents for intraosseous devices and obtained FDA approval for over 15 indications and devices.

Dr. Miller is currently Chairman and CMO of VidaCare Corporation where, in collaboration with the University of Texas, he developed the EZ-IO, the world’s first battery powered IO device that provides vascular access in less than 5 seconds for life-threatening illnesses. Web: www.vidacare.com
